What is Flock?

Flock Safety sells a powerful mass-surveillance platform to local police agencies.
So it’s just cameras?
No. Flock’s main product is more like an AI-powered search engine for a surveillance network.
Police agencies create this surveillance network by sharing direct access to their Flock installation with other police agencies. The Eugene Police Department is currently sharing access to its Flock installation with at least 38 other agencies in Washington, California, Oregon, and Nevada.
How does it work?
Flock Safety installs solar-powered cameras at locations around a city as determined by the police department in consultation with Flock.
Those cameras record all vehicle traffic (and anything else they can see) and upload it to systems managed by Flock Safety.
Flock Safety’s software then uses AI image recognition to label these videos in real time.
Then, a police department can use Flock Safety’s software to search for activity in a given area. For example: “blue sedan with window stickers”.
Flock’s software labels vehicles by year, make, model, color, whether or not they have visible damage in specific areas, whether or not they have a cargo rack, whether or not they have bumper stickers, and potentially many more attributes.
