Springfield Police Department Policy 37.1.1

Policy 37.1.1 is SPD’s recently-drafted policy for ALPR systems.

According to the policy, reasonable suspicion or probable cause is not necessary for ALPR use. The policy details that data downloaded by SPD can be exempted from deletion protocols if it is “reasonable to believe” it will become evidence (see above 37.1.1.4 for the storage process). Also note, “data may be released to other authorized and verified law enforcement officials and agencies at any time for legitimate law enforcement purposes.”
